METSUBUSHI EXPLANATION (Sight Removers) What is Metsubushi? Metsubushi is taking away the capability of sight from an attacker. There are many ways of doing this and a few methods include smoke bombs and smoke screens, chemical gases and sprays such as tear gas or pepper spray or any spray that would be an eye irritant. A clouds of ash, ground glass, sand, powdered red pepper, baby powders, flour, iorn dust and brass filings. You could also use bright flashes of light, all of which render the perceiver’s sight temporarily useless. Even a bright flashlight pointed into a persons eyes can be an effective means of Metsubushi. How Can I Carry Metsubushi? We often carry Metsubushi in our ninja shoulder utility bag or in our ninja utility belt although there are many other effective ways of carring Metsubushi while out and about. Metsubushi can be worn around the neck in a container that looks like a decorative pendant. This would not arouse suspicion. The hollowed out tube is filled with ground pepper then plugged with a pencil-thin stopper attached to a thin line. When attacked the Ninja merely brought the tube to their mouth, removed the plug and blew hard into the mouthpiece. Even ground up chalk powder can be used as Metsubushi. Hollowed-out egg shells with a small hole in each end work really well. You can also use Nut Shells, Your Sword Scabbard, loaded Blowgun and so forth. You can use a 35mm film tube, a bambo tube or a small section of PVC pipe that is plugged up on one end and filled with your Metsubushi powder....The list goes on! What are some other methods of metsubushi? Here I will give you a few examples. Other methods of Metsubushi would include yelling loudly into your opponents ears, poking your finger into their eye or snapping a towel or other object in their face. You can also take off your hat and throw it into your attackers face causing them to blink. Even reflecting sunlight off of a sword blade or small mirror into the enemy’s eyes are methods of Metsubushi. Punching the attacker in the nose or striking an attacker and causing a cut over the eye or on the forehead so that blood runs into the eyes is also Metsubushi. If you were to sling a cup of very hot coffee into someones face...that would be Metsubushi. In some areas where you cannot carry a can of Pepper Spray due to the laws, you can utilize the concept of metsubushi by carring a container of ground pepper or salt. Cayenne works great and if you were to ever be searched by the police, you could always tell them that its for food...right? Baby powder and flour are certainly more visual to the bystander and more dramatic in effect, but they are not superior to simple salt and pepper. Friendly Metsubushi Training Methods! When training we often use a hand full of torn up paper as Metsubushi. We also use a hand full of grass as a form of Metsubushi when training. These are both great ways to use Metsubushi without throwing powders such as baby powder or flour.....lol So, Now you know! Metsubushi is the use of powders and all sorts of things to either vanish or to blind someone so you could either exit or damage them.
